WHAT DO I DO IF I RECEIVE INSURANCE DOCUMENTS CONTAINING INCORRECT INFORMATION?

If after concluding a contract You receive insurance documents containing some incorrect information, please be sure to inform Us thereof by e-mail [email protected] If this information is important, for example, for the assessment of the Insurance Risk, terminating the contract and concluding a new one may be necessary. Otherwise, We will simply correct the mistakes and send correct documents to You.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY RISK HAS INCREASED?

Upon the occurrence of at least one of the risks on the list of increased risks, please inform Us thereof by e-mail [email protected]

HOW CAN I PAY AN INSURANCE PREMIUM?

You may pay insurance premiums by transferring money to Our bank accounts.

If You conclude a contract through Our representatives or partners, You can pay insurance premiums in the manner specified by them.

DO I HAVE TO PAY VAT ON THE PAYABLE INSURANCE PREMIUM?

No, according to legal acts applicable in the Republic of Lithuania, insurance premiums are not subject to value added tax.

CAN ANOTHER PERSON PAY THE INSURANCE PREMIUM FOR ME?

Yes, but be sure to enter the correct payment order number in the payment purpose field.

HOW CAN I GET AN INVOICE FOR THE INSURANCE PREMIUM?

If Your company needs an invoice for insurance services, provide it with an insurance certificate, because according to applicable legislation, it is equivalent to an invoice, which allows recognizing costs as expenses.

HOW CAN I AMEND OR RENEW AN INSURANCE CONTRACT THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN CONCLUDED?

If You want to amend an insurance contract that has already been concluded or to extend its validity term, please send Us an application by e-mail [email protected] or on the self-service portal.

HOW CAN I TERMINATE OR CANCEL THE INSURANCE CONTRACT?

You may cancel an insurance contract that has not yet taken effect or terminate an already valid insurance contract on the self-service portal or by sending Us an application by e-mail [email protected].

DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR TERMINATING THE INSURANCE CONTRACT?

No, terminating the insurance contract will not cost You extra.

WHAT STEPS SHOULD I TAKE IF MY VEHICLE’S LICENSE PLATE HAS CHANGED?

If your vehicle’s license plate number changes, please email us at [email protected], and we will send you updated insurance documents.

WHAT IS COVERED UNDER COMPULSORY MOTOR INSURANCE?

Your civil liability and that of anyone driving your vehicle covers damage to third parties. This means that if your vehicle causes harm to someone’s property, health, or life, or otherwise violates their rights, we will pay for the damage on your behalf.

HOW CAN I INSURE A VEHICLE IF THE OWNER DOES NOT HAVE A DRIVER’S LICENSE?

If you want to insure a vehicle whose owner doesn’t have a driver’s license, enter the experience of the youngest driver in the ‘Date of Issue of Driver’s License’ field on our self-service portal.

DO I NEED TO INFORM THE INSURER IF THE VEHICLE OWNER CHANGES?

If the vehicle owner changes (for example, if the car is sold), both you and the new owner must notify us immediately, no later than 15 days after the transfer. Please contact us by email at [email protected] or by phone at 19 001.

WHO NEEDS TO HAVE COMPULSORY MOTOR INSURANCE?

If you have a vehicle registered or intended for registration in Lithuania (car, motorcycle, tractor, etc.) or have a leasing/financing agreement for a vehicle, you must insure the civil liability of yourself and anyone else who will drive the vehicle.

WHAT IS A GREEN CARD AND HOW CAN I GET IT?

If you travel abroad with an insured vehicle, you may receive a Green Card. This card proves that your vehicle’s drivers’ civil liability is insured, so you don’t need to buy separate compulsory insurance in each country.

The Green Card is issued along with your other insurance documents. When traveling abroad, make sure to print it out yourself on a white A4 sheet – this has been possible since 1 July 2020, when the new Green Card forms came into effect.

WHAT DOES INCREASED RISK MEAN?

When taking out an insurance policy, you must tell us how you will use your vehicle. If it is for personal use, it is considered a standard risk.

The following uses are considered non-standard risks:

  • Taxi or ride services;
  • Paid transport of passengers or goods;
  • Security services;
  • Fire services;
  • Police services;
  • Ambulance services;
  • Regular passenger transport;
  • Short-term rental (up to 6 months) or rental with a driver;
  • Transport of liquid fuel, gas, or chemicals;
  • Driving instruction (in these cases, you also need to indicate if the vehicle will be driven by an inexperienced driver).

DO I NEED TO HAVE MY INSURANCE DOCUMENTS WITH ME WHILE DRIVING?

You don’t need to carry insurance documents when driving in Lithuania. But if you travel abroad, make sure to take a printed Insurance Certificate and a Green Card with you.

DO I HAVE TO REPEATEDLY SEND PHOTOGRAPHS TO EXTEND AN EXISTING CONTRACT?

There is no need to resubmit photos.

DO I HAVE TO PROVIDE PHOTOGRAPHS OF A VEHICLE BEING INSURED?

You don’t need to take photos of the vehicle if the insurance contract is for a full calendar year and the vehicle has no visible damage. If the contract is for less than a year or the vehicle has visible damage, please send photos to [email protected] following the instructions on our website www.balcia.lt.

WILL I ALWAYS BE SUBJECTED TO A DEDUCTIBLE PROVIDED FOR IN THE CONTRACT IN CASE OF AN INSURED EVENT?

Generally, yes, but there may be exceptions in the Insurance Terms and Conditions or the Insurance Policy. The deductible may not apply to glass breakage, collisions with animals, and some other risks.

WHAT RISKS SHALL BE INSURED?

CASCO insurance covers traffic accidents, theft, vandalism, natural events, fire, and other sudden, unexpected events.

WHAT IS COVERED UNDER CASCO INSURANCE?

CASCO insurance covers:

  • The vehicle, its equipment, and any personal items left inside
  • Accident insurance for the driver and passengers
  • Roadside assistance, including a replacement car

TRAVEL

WHEN SHOULD I PURCHASE TRAVEL INSURANCE?

We recommend purchasing travel insurance in advance, but no later than on the day of departure. If You are outside of Lithuania on the day of concluding the contract, You will not be able to conclude a travel insurance contract.

I AM A FOREIGN CITIZEN WITH A TEMPORARY RESIDENCE PERMIT IN LITHUANIA. CAN I PURCHASE TRAVEL INSURANCE?

Yes, You must purchase insurance in order to receive the necessary medical assistance. We will need a proof of your identity and Your temporary residence permit. Please contact us by e-mail [email protected] or call 19 001.

WHAT CAN BE COVERED UNDER TRAVEL INSURANCE?

You can use travel insurance to insure against unforeseen financial losses related to medical expenses in case of baggage loss or delay, damage done to third parties, travel interruption, and documents lost while on a trip.

EUROPEAN HEALTH INSURANCE CARD (ESDK). IS IT ENOUGH FOR TRAVELLING?

If you have a European Health Insurance Card, You will only receive the necessary medical assistance during Your temporary stay in any country of the European Union. You will have to cover other possible costs, such as transportation to a medical institution, repatriation, living expenses abroad, premiums, surcharges, etc., Yourself.

AM I OBLIGED TO HAVE A PRINTED INSURANCE CERTIFICATE WHEN TRAVELLING?

We recommend having both printed travel insurance documents together with all travel documents and their digital version in a medium convenient to You. In case of an event, You will always have a Policy and a memo with You containing all the necessary information. This information is also available on the self-service portal.

DO I HAVE TO INFORM ABOUT THE PURPOSE OF MY TRAVEL WHEN CONCLUDING A TRAVEL INSURANCE CONTRACT?

Yes. If You plan to spend time actively on a trip (skiing, diving), to participate in official competitions (football, basketball, etc.), to study or go to work, this must be indicated when concluding a travel insurance contract.

IF I DAMAGE SOMEONE’S PROPERTY WITH MY VEHICLE, IS IT COVERED BY THE INSURANCE?

Yes, Our Insurance covers such cases.

WHAT IS THE MAX SPEED I CAN RIDE MY VEHICLE TO MAKE SURE MY INSURANCE COVERS ANY DAMAGES OR ACCIDENTS?

Max speed is always according to state regulations with particular vehicle.

IF MY CHILD OR RELATIVE RIDES WITH MY INSURED VEHICLE AND DAMAGES IT, OTHER PERSON OR SOMEONE’S PROPERTY, IS IT COVERED BY THE INSURANCE?

Our Insurance covers such losses, provided that Your child or relative is placed in the Insurance policy as Insured person.

IF I FALL OFF THE VEHICLE, GET TRAUMA AND NEED TO BE HOSPITALIZED, IS IT COVERED BY MY CITY COMBO INSURANCE?

Our Insurance covers both trauma and property interests of the Insured person, who got injured while using the insured Vehicle.

IF THE TIRE BROKE IN A STONE OR SOMETHING SHARP DURING THE RIDE, IS IT COVERED BY THE INSURANCE?

Once, during the insurance period, up to sum insured indicated in Insurance policy We shall pay the Insurance Indemnity in the event of Accident causing damages to insured Vehicle, i.e. losses caused by crash with another bicycle, vehicle, obstacle, pedestrian, animal or other object. 

IF I HIT SOMEONE (PERSON OR ANIMAL) WITH MY VEHICLE, IS IT COVERED BY THE INSURANCE?

Yes, Our Insurance covers such cases.

We shall pay the indemnity to the third party to whom You caused damages while driving on or with the insured Vehicle: 

  • damages caused to the life or health of a third party;
  • damages caused to a third party’s property.
IF MY VEHICLE GETS STOLEN FROM MY YARD, STAIRCASE, HOUSE OR APARTMENT, IS IT COVERED BY THE INSURANCE?

Our Insurance covers secret or exposed theft of the Vehicle if it is committed by third parties illegally by:

  • entering closed premises with clear signs of burglary– by breaking, mechanically damaging obstacles or breaking the locks installed to restrict the unauthorized access to the premises;
  • breaking, mechanically damaging or unlocking safety locks, which the Vehicle is attached with to a stationary object, connected to the ground or a building.

! Also Insurance coverage shall be applicable only if the insured Vehicle is registered in voluntary Lithuanian bicycle and/or scooter registry.

IF MY KID, OR RELATIVE RIDES WITH MY INSURED VEHICLE AND GETS IN THE ACCIDENT, IS IT COVERED BY THE INSURANCE?

Yes, Our Insurance covers losses to Insured Vehicle.

IF I BREAK OR DAMAGE MY VEHICLE BY RIDING IN A PIT ON A ROAD, IS IT COVERED BY THE INSURANCE?

Once, during the insurance period, up to sum insured indicated in Insurance policy We shall pay the Insurance Indemnity in the event of Accident causing damages to insured Vehicle, i.e. losses caused by crash with another bicycle, vehicle, obstacle, pedestrian, animal or other object. 

DOES MY INSURANCE COVER DAMAGES AND ACCIDENTS ONLY IN THE CITY OR ALSO OUTSIDE THE CITY (IN THE COUNTRYSIDE, IN THE WOODS, BY THE LAKES AND/OR RIVERS, IN THE NATURE TRAILS, ETC.)?

Our Insurance covers Insurance events which occurred within the Republic of Lithuania.

JUNIOR

UP TO WHAT AGE CAN I PURCHASE A JUNIOR ACCIDENT POLICY?

You can buy a policy for children under 17 years of age.

Can I purchase a policy for a term less than one year?

The policy can be purchased for a term of no less than 1 month.

WHAT TO DO IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT?

Immediately contact the relevant authority:

  • Medical services in the event of an accident or illness.
  • The police in the event of theft, robbery, or a road traffic accident.
  • The fire and rescue service in case of a fire or similar incident.

IS THE POLICY VALID FOR SPORT?

Yes, any sport played by the Insured is covered.

Where is the insurance valid?

The insurance is valid worldwide.

Is the policy valid during field trips and competitions?

Yes, the policy is valid. Any sport is included in the policy coverage.

What does the risk “Family Joy” mean?

These are expenses for improving the child’s well-being after an accident.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I HAVE THE NECESSITY TO RENT A SUBSTITUTE VEHICLE WHEN I HAVE CASCO POLICY?

In case You have chosen the Road Assistance service to Your CASCO insurance policy, then substitute vehicle rental services shall be provided to You according to the provisions indicated in your insurance contract.

HOW CAN I INFORM YOU THAT I NEED A SUBSTITUTE VEHICLE?

Just simply write to us via [email protected] or call 19001 informing us on the necessity of a substitute vehicle. Please indicate a reason for such a need.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER I SUBMIT A REQUEST FOR A SUBSTITUTE VEHICLE?

Our claims handling specialist shall evaluate both your request and provided documents as soon as possible and shall immediately contact you in the means comfortable to you regarding the next steps.

WHERE CAN I RENT A SUBSTITUTE VEHICLE?

For your convenience We offer You to choose our partners services and recommend You to rent a vehicle through them  - that would prevent You from worrying about the price or if a vehicle fits all established requirements.

If you choose to rent a substitute vehicle from another company in Lithuania offering such services, please make sure that the substitute vehicle fits the same class as your own vehicle which got damaged during the accident and that the rent costs are not higher that the average prices in the region.

AM I ENTITLED TO COMPENSATION FOR SUBSTITUTE VEHICLE RENTAL COSTS AS A INJURED PARTY OF AN ACCIDENT?

Substitute vehicle rental costs shall be compensated when the accident is confirmed being an insurance event and the encountered costs are recognized as necessary. These costs are not always recognised as such, however, in most cases, when a vehicle prior to an accident was used for work purposes, familly daily activities or for other important matters, and it got damaged in a way it could no longer be used for such purposes, but the need for those activities remained, we shall consider substitute vehicle rent costs as necessary.

WHO DO I REFER TO HAVING SUFFERED FROM A VEHICLE REGISTERED ABROAD?

You can file a claim directly with a foreign insurer of the vehicle at fault or the representative of this insurer in Lithuania.

If a foreign insurer has not appointed representative for claims administration in Lithuania, then, upon occurrence of the Insured Event, refer to any insurance company offering compulsory motor insurance in Lithuania, and if the Insured Event took place abroad, please contact the Bureau (www.cab.lt).

FOR WHAT PERIOD I CAN RENT A SUBSTITUTE VEHICLE?

Substitute vehicle rental costs shall be compensated for the period when your damaged vehicle is being repaired (we have to evaluate the repair estimate first). If Your damaged vehicle can not be driven then we shall also compensate the rental costs for the period before the repair.

If your vehicle is declared unrepairable, We shall cover the substitute vehicle rental costs which occurred until the insurance benefit is fully paid.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IN CASE OF A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT?
  • Take all possible measures to reduce consequences of the event (provide first aid, protect property, prevent the spread of fire, etc.).
  • Depending on circumstances of the event, immediately report it to the help line by calling 112 or, if the event took place outside Lithuania, – report it to the police.
HOW SHOULD I REPORT AN INSURED EVENT?

You can report the Insured Event in the manner most convenient to You:

If you are an injured party of an insured event and you have already submitted a request for a substitute vehicle proving its necessity having the objective rental period, then the before-mentioned costs shall be compensated.

It may happen that at the initial stage of claim case administration procedure we will not be able to confirm whether the accident can be declared as an insured event, therefor You will be individually informed about the specific conditions.

WHEN COMPLETING A DECLARATION IS NECESSARY?

If upon the occurrence of a traffic accident there are no circumstances making it necessary to call the police, and participants in the accident agree on liability and on circumstances of the accident, You can complete an accident declaration.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I DO NOT HAVE A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT DECLARATION IN A PAPER FORM?
  • If a traffic accident occurred in Lithuania, complete an electronic declaration at the scene of the accident. You can complete it on Your mobile device (phone) by clicking the link: https://draudimoivykiai.lt.
  • If an accident occurred abroad, draw a diagram of the accident and describe the circumstances of the accident as clearly as possible. Specify participants in the accident, the vehicles, witnesses (if any), the responsible person and confirm it all by signatures of all the participants in the accident.
IF I AM THE ONE AT FAULT OF A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT, DO I HAVE TO REPORT THE ACCIDENT?

Yes. You must report a traffic accident when You are at fault within 3 business days in all cases, unless an electronic traffic accident declaration was completed at the scene: https://draudimoivykiai.lt/ .

WHO DO I REFER TO HAVING SUFFERED FROM AN UNINSURED VEHICLE?

If an accident occurred in Lithuania, and the vehicle of the person responsible for the accident was not covered by compulsory motor insurance, You may refer to any insurance company offering compulsory motor insurance in Lithuania, which will administer the claim on behalf of the Bureau. If the event is recognized to be the Insured Event, that same insurance company will pay the insurance indemnity.

WHEN DO I HAVE TO CALL THE POLICE?
  • If You disagree on the circumstances of and / or liability for a traffic accident with another road user (other road users);
  • If a person has been killed or injured in a traffic accident; If the owner of the suffered property is not known when (you are guilty of the event);
  • If the person having caused the accident is not known (when You are a suffered party);
  • In case of a theft from a vehicle or a car theft;
  • If the vehicle or property was damaged by illegal actions of third parties.
WHERE CAN I FILE DOCUMENTS REGARDING THE INSURED EVENT?
  • If You register an accident report on Our website, You will be able to attach all the available documents to the report form;
  • If You have additional documents or applications to a registered accident or if You registered the accident by phone, submit them to Us by e-mail: [email protected] .
WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO SUBMIT IF I AM GUILTY OF THE ACCIDENT?
  • A traffic accident declaration or another document confirming liability and circumstances of the accident (for example, a police statement), if You have one;
  • a copy of a driver’s licence;
  • photos or videos from the accident scene (if You have them);
  • information on witnesses and other available information important for the investigation of circumstances of the accident.
WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO PROVIDE IF I WAS INJURED IN A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT?
  • You shall provide, in all cases, a detailed statement from a medical institution, stating the diagnosis and reflecting Your current medical condition after the injury, also indicating the treatment prescribed for it, the treatment period and possible residual effects;
  • If You give Us a consent to the processing of Your personal health data, We by our self may ask the medical institution to provide this statement.
WHAT ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO PROVIDE IF I HAVE BEEN INJURED DURING A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT AND I HAVE INCURRED TREATMENT EXPENSES?

If You ask for indemnification of expenses related to health recovery, e.g. medicines, nursing supplies, paid procedures, etc., You shall provide a proof of purchase and factual evidence, such as receipts, invoices, etc.

WHO WILL PAY FOR SUBSTITUTE VEHICLE RENTAL COSTS AND WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO PRESENT AFTER THE RENT IS OVER?

The rental costs may be paid by You and only the request for compensation together with the invoice and payment proof can be submitted to us. In this case we will compensate the money to you.

Or you can submit a request asking us to pay directly to the company which rented the substitute vehicle.

In case the accident is not considered an insurance event the costs are yours and they will not be compensated.

ASSISTANCE COMPANY

Our partner, who, in case of a travel insurance claim, will help You to resolve all the emerged issues quicker. It is also Our partner, who will help You in case of a road traffic accident or a vehicle breakdown, if You have ordered roadside assistance service.

BUREAU

Motor Insurers’ Bureau of the Republic of Lithuania established based on legal acts of the Republic of Lithuania. For more information about its activities, see www.cab.lt.

GROSS NEGLIGENCE

Actions (action or omission), which person would not have committed, had she or he complied with minimum requirements of care and attention.

POLICYHOLDER

A natural or a legal person who has applied to Us or Our representative for the conclusion of an insurance contract or to whom We have offered to conclude an insurance contract, or who has concluded an insurance contract with Us.

INSURER or WE or BALCIA

Balcia Insurance SE, company licensed to conduct insurance activities in the Republic of Lithuania, operating through Balcia Insurance SE Lithuanian branch.

INSURANCE CERTIFICATE or POLICY

Document issued by Us, printed or electronic, depending on Policyholder’s choice, certifying the conclusion of an insurance contract, often simply called a “policy”.

INSURANCE RISK

A likely threat beyond the control of the Insured Person, which threatens property interests of the Insured Person and is related to his or her life, health, property, or civil liability.

SUM INSURED

The amount of money specified in the Iinsurance Contract or calculated in accordance with the procedure established therein, which an insurance indemnity may not exceed. The Sum Insured shall be determined for each Insured and for each selected Insurance Risk. The Sum Insured shall be reduced by the amount of the insurance indemnities paid for each Insured Person. Exceptions may be stated in the insurance contract.

INSURED EVENT

An incident provided for in the insurance contract upon the occurrence of which We shall be obliged to pay an insurance indemnity.

DEDUCTIBLE

The sum that is deducted from the insurance indemnity amount payable to Policyholder, each Insured or Beneficiary for each Insured Event. Depending on the selected Insurance Risk, it may be specified in the Insurance Contract as a specific amount or as a percentage of the calculated loss amount.

CASCO

Voluntary motor own damage insurance.

CORRESPONDENT

Our partner abroad, who helps us to administer Insured Events that have happened abroad faster in case of compulsory motor insurance. 

BENEFICIARY

A person appointed by You and specified in the Insurance Contract, entitled to receive an insurance indemnity in case of the Insured Event.

COMPULSORY MOTOR INSURANCE

Compulsory motor third party liability insurance.

ACCIDENT

A sudden, unexpected event, independent of the will of the Insured Person, that happened to the Insured Person during the validity period of the Insurance Contract, when damage was done to the life or health of the Insured Person.

INSURED PERSON

A person clearly stated in the insurance contract. We shall have an obligation to pay an insurance indemnity in case of occurrence of the Insured Event in the Insured Person’s life.

HOME INSURANCE

Do we insure solar panels?

We prohibit solar panels on the roof of a building or in the vicinity of a building if connected to the building's overall electrical system.

Will deduction be applied for civil liability cases?

It depends on the insurance terms you choose. Concluding insurance contract You can choose deductible amount 0 EUR per claim case, so that for every claim case theare won't be any deduction.

Does the property insurance cover apply to a scooter / motorbike / motorcycle?

We will cover losses to a scooter/motorbike or other vehicle that is stored at the place of insurance, if:

  • the engine power does not exceed 1 kW, or
  • maximum speed does not exceed 25 km/h, or
  • the gross mass does not exceed 25 kg and the maximum design speed is less than 14 km/h.
